Advice To My Younger Self

With International Women’s Day around the corner, it’s time to reflect. Reflect on what we’ve been through, what lessons we’ve learnt and what we might want to change. Do you ever think of a time in your past you really wish you could go back to and do differently? Or you wish you could tell yourself something then that you know now? At ISAWITFIRST HQ, we’ve asked some of the amazing, powerful women what advice they’d give to their younger selves. Here’s what we got 💖

Stop straightening your hair because you think it’s what boys like. Embrace the curls

Other people aren’t thinking about your appearance nearly as much as you are. Try and let go a little

If you want to wear it, wear it!

Be nice to everyone. You don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors.

Keep supporting your girls, they’re going to be so important to you in later life

A small group of good friends is better than a big group of toxic ones

If it isn’t making you happy, don’t do it

Players only like you when you’re playing - if you start doing something different, people usually tend not to like it. They only like when you’re doing something similar to them. So just do whatever you want, there’s always going to be someone that doesn’t like it anyway! This was great advice for me for uni and work!

Don’t let people’s unkind words stop you from doing the things you love

Don’t start that diet – your health is more important

Stop thinking you couldn’t do it, you DEFINITELY could!

If it’s not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend longer than 5 minutes worrying about it now.

It’s okay not to have a plan. Things will work out.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for things. Your life was given only to you, so do what makes you happy!

If you’re getting bad vibes from someone, stay away. Someone will bad energy can’t be good for you!

Work smart, not hard

Don’t care what anyone else thinks - do what makes you happy

Don’t pluck all your eyebrows off in Year 7!

Uni is NOT everything, if the pressure isn’t worth it then leave!

Everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to be looking at you

You’re actually fine without a boyfriend – when a relationship stops being fun, end it!

Learn to let things go. Things you were worrying about for so long don’t matter at all now - it’s wasted energy!

Stop apologising for other people’s mistakes

Don't make people make you feel bad for liking different things

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but we hope it gives you a bit of closure that whatever is happening, there’s always a solution. Just take a breath and remember who you are.
