Your Cocktail Bar Guide: Manchester

Is there really anything better than putting on your fave outfit, getting ready and going for some cocktails in town with good company? Being one of the best cities in the world and home to our ISAW HQ, I’m going through some of the best places you can go for drinks in Manchester. Whether it’s with your best girlfriends or for a date, I’ve covered everything for you.

Turtle Bay
Turtle Bay is known for its happy hour, going all day until 7pm, then restarting again at 10pm until close every night! They’ve got so much choice and variety of cocktails you’ll definitely get carried away! It's so easy to plant yourself on a table and stay here the whole night. Not to mention the vibe inside is a Carribbean dream, playing upbeat reggae tunes and keeping the lighting mood appropriate. The staff are always super friendly and the service is great. This is the perfect place to go with your best friends before hitting a club. You can find out more by clicking here.

The Washhouse
This has to be the most secretive bar in Manchester, so make sure you don't tell anyone! With an entrance that looks exactly like a legitimate laundrette, you’d easily believe you’d come to the wrong place. After you’ve picked up the phone on the wall, you pass through a tumble dryer door (kinda like Narnia) that takes you to the main bar which is extremely quirky and amazing. The whole experience really feels like you're gonna be dropping your laundry off with them, and their website gives nothing away that it is in fact a bar. The food and cocktails are presented in the most unusual and unique ways that you wouldn’t be able to resist taking a pic for the ‘gram! This bar is bookings only, so if you want an exclusive, table service experience, The Washhouse is your go-to. You can find out more here.

Cane & Grain
Cane & Grain is such a fun place to go with a good group of friends. It’s a buzzing place filled with catchy music and amazing cocktails. Having both a downstairs and upstairs means you can start from the bottom and work your way up. With a cool atmosphere downstairs that is a nod towards to 80s skate scene and a more clubby feel upstairs with a dancefloor and seating area, it's a cool place to spend your money. The cocktails are made so theatrically and one of them is even served to you on fire! Deffo check this place out on your crawl - you might end up staying the whole night! Convenience Store
This place is the ultimate secret bar in the Northern Quarter with the look of a normal convenience store on the outside. It’s created by the same genius minds behind Almost Famous, Home Sweet Home and Luck Lust Liquor and Burn, so you know it’s gonna be unreal! With a huge menu of creative and straight-to-the-point cocktails, you’re guaranteed a memorable night with lots of Instagrammable points. The bar itself is filled with exposed brick and industrial benches with lots of retro sweets and chocolate bars on the shelves surrounding. Think of this place as a downtown Brooklyn corner shop, only darker and more neon signs! Check out more on their website here.

The Liar's Club
If you fancy being transported to a tropical Tiki hideaway away from normal life, head to Liar’s Club. Its happy hour is 5-9pm Sunday to Fridays, so you’ve got no excuse not to go! Specialising in rum cocktails, it’s the perfect place to satisfy all your rum fantasies, you can even buy bottles of rum in there too! I recommend the sharing cocktails which come in elaborate things like volcanoes, coconut shells and pineapples. One sharer costs £100 and serves 6-10 people!! Located just off Oxford Road, this is the perfect student bar. The drinks are amazingly cheap and there's so many cocktails to choose from, ranging from £2.50 - £6!
